I was tasked with designing a simple commodity tumbler for Core Home. The item was to have an all-plastic body with two walls to prevent condensation. I was also asked to help make the item stand out on shelves with a fun personality.
While the vessels came together straightforwardly, I explored deeply on how to add a fun standout element to the lid.
Eventually, I landed on applying a colorful interchangeable soft-touch band to the lid, that could have fun 3-dimensional illustrations applied by our graphic design team, or alternately be applied with a marbled swirl of color. These bands could be easily applied by the manufacturer.
The final item eventually landed at major retailers.
